Huawei P8 Lite Takes a Bullet for South African Businessman

According to reports appearing in sections of South African press, a man’s life was saved, quite literally, by his Huawei P8 Lite smartphone.

41-year-old Siraaj Abrahams was reportedly attacked by robbers on the night of the last Saturday of August outside his Cape Town home. The robbers shot him twice on the chest but luckily, the bullets were stopped by the P8 Lite which was tucked in his jacket’s left chest pocket.

Of course after word on the incident started going round thanks to media reports, Huawei couldn’t miss a chance to bask in the good PR. The company’s marketing director for the Sub-Saharan Africa region, Hawa Hyath, invited Siraaj and his wife for lunch before giving him a brand new Huawei P9 Lite to replace his heroic P8 Lite and throwing in VIP tickets to watch South African football club Ajax Cape Town, which is sponsored by Huawei, in action.

The P8 Lite debuted last year as a cheaper alternative to the flagship P8 which had a premium price tag. It has since become one of the most popular smartphones around thanks to both its impressive feature set and its affordable price pricing.

It is not the first time a Huawei device has done this. Back in 2013, reports emerged of a researcher from Millward Brown whose life was saved by a Huawei MediaPad 7 Lite after being caught in a shootout in Garissa, Kenya.
