With the latest update to Google Chrome it will now be possible to cast direct to the browser without need for extra configurations or installs.
Prior to this, you either needed to be cast enabled websites such as Youtube, Netflix or use the Google Cast extension.
The new option however works on websites that have cast integrated and even those that don’t. For the latter, it will be now possible by selecting the “Cast…” menu item from the Chrome menu. It also makes it possible to cast to Hangouts and Education Cloud services.
Please note that you will need to have the latest version of Chrome browser (v52 stable or later) to have this menu available.
Google claims that these devices have become “incredibly popular” with 38-million casts from Chrome and 50-million hours of content (video and audio) plays in just the last month.
In other (rumoured) news, Chromecast is set to receive a 4K upgrade supposedly in October when Google announces new hardware.
