LG V20 Finally Goes Official, Features Android Nougat Out of the Box, Dual Screens on the Front and As expected, LG unveiled the V20, its flagship smartphone for the second half of the year, last night.
Like its predecessor, the V10, the V20 sports a dual-screen setup with a small screen on top of the main 5.7-inch display for showing notifications, acting as a quick app launcher and providing access to Quick Settings.
While the LG G5, LG’s other flagship smartphone this year, has a dual-camera setup, it is not in the same vein as the one we saw on Huawei’s P9. The second camera lens at the back of the G5 is meant for wide angle shots and has a lesser megapixel count than the main, a stark contrast to the Huawei P9’s duo of 12-megapixel shooters which complement each other to take photos with more depth and contrast alongside each having its own colour functions. The V20’s dual-camera setup follows the same line of thought so we get a 16-megapixel main camera sensor with optical image stabilization and a secondary 8-megapixel wide-angle unit.
Unlike the G5, the V20 is keeping off the modular train wreck and sticking with the tried and tested traditional candy bar look. Since it is all-metal, there are fewer ways LG could’ve achieved that design while still keeping a removable battery so the battery unit still pops out from the bottom of the device G5-style but this time round using a switch.
Software-wise, as already earlier highlighted, the LG V20 becomes the first smartphone to arrive with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. On top of it, LG has added its own customised user interface, LG UX 5.0+ which it says is an upgrade over the LG UX 5.0 found on the G5. One of the features that LG is hyping up as being part of LG UX 5.0+ is multi-window even though we know that is pretty standard now that Google has incorporated it in Android Nougat.
While some features like the display size and processor have been kept intact, others like the battery have been beefed up. The battery sees an increase in size from 3,000mAh in the V10 to a 3,200mAh removable unit. The V20 also sports a USB Type-C port instead of the microUSB found on the V10.
There’s also the high-quality audio (Hi-Fi) that LG does not waste time in screaming from the rooftops about.
