According to a report by the Guardian, Twitter apparently signed a deal with Sky Sports, a well known media house dedicated to show sports , where we will see highlights from the Premier League for the upcoming 2016/2017 season. The unfortunate part is that you may probably not see the content as it is iterated that Twitter users from UK and Ireland will be able to see these highlights which will be broadcasted live on SkyFootball’s Twitter accounts. In addition, Twitter users in Ireland will be able to see live video content of the Saturday 3pm games which apparently are not shown on TV.
Twitter and the Premier League are a natural fit and you will attest to that when the Premier League is in session during the 9 months. Whenever there is a match, millions of fans from all over the world comment about it and in the past, Twitter has attempted to capitalize on the hype by the use of hashflags which they sort of retired for some reason.
From the report published by the publication, it seems that this feature will be geofenced in a way but we have to wait and see if fans from other countries will be able to see these highlights right from SkyFootball’s Twitter account. This can also be seen as a move to counter the amateur recording of replays which are uploaded on Twitter via their video platform or Vine.
